Endodontic is basically called Root Canal Treatment, the word comes from the Greek word endo meaning inside and odons meaning tooth. Literally taken, it means study of that which is inside the tooth. This procedure involves your dentist removing the infected or necrotic nerve from inside your tooth, carefully cleansing the tooth and placing a root filling material into the root where the nerve originally was so that the root is sealed from your mouth and no infection can enter your jaw through the tooth. Why root canal therapy is painless?
We use a local anesthetic to numb the tooth. In fact, there are a few techniques we use to make sure the tooth is numb, or asleep. Then the dentist will gently remove the nerve from inside the tooth root, and we will then gently shape the canals inside the tooth to remove all bacteria and necrotic tissue. The whole procedure takes 30 to 45 minutes to two hours, depending on the number of roots and nerves in the tooth. Why you may need a root canal?
A root canal is a natural cavity within the center of every tooth. Root canal therapy is used to treat and save a tooth that has become badly damaged or infected due to trauma, injury or decay. The nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth, where the infection occurs, is cleansed and sealed.
You may need a root canal if you experience any of the following:
An abscess in your tooth
Swelling that extends to other parts of the face or head
Loss of bone near the tip of the root of the tooth
Drainage into the skin from the gums or near the tooth from a hole in the tooth
