General Education about the structure, arrangement and functions of the teeth are carried out at primary level education in the schools. Briefly, there two sets of teeth. They are deciduous teeth (Milk Teeth) and permanent teeth.
Milk teeth (The deciduous teeth, Primary Teeth) they form the first set of teeth. They are twenty in number and are white in color from which they derive their name. They start falling from the age of six years up to twelve years.
Permanent teeth are the teeth which last a lifetime. They start erupting from six years of age up to twelve years. They are twenty eight in number initially till the last four teeth erupt between the ages of eighteen to twenty two years which finally makes them thirty two in number. They are slightly yellowish in color and are larger in size and stronger as compared to milk teeth. There are different teeth for different functions. Incisors are used for cutting the food. Canines are meant for tearing the food and premolars and molars are utilized for grinding the food. Teeth from the day they erupt require to be kept clean. Healthy teeth are a reflection of healthy body. There is the need for the patient to educate themselves for taking care of their own teeth and the dental care of whom they care for.
